ASSIST YOUR CHILD TO TALK

I LIKE MY CHILD TO TALK WELL.
Researches have cleared the doubt that the infant inside the mother’s uterus can listen to the language after the formation of sensitive parts for ear and listening. The sensitive area of hearing is one of the best creations of Mother Nature. Because it can filter and imbibe only the human voice. Other wise imagine children living near railway stations, harbors, air port, and forests will make sounds only like the trains, planes, animals and ships.
Dr.Montessori has studied the importance of human language and helped us to make the new born infant to develop the most important identity of humans. This identity is the language. Language makes the infant to put his strong step into the freedom of self expression. There are many important stages in the child’s life to associate with language.
The article will help us to provide the clear good language development to our children.
VERY IMPORTANT POINT FOR PARENTS
Dr.Montessori has strongly insisted the importance of mother tongue. The parents must talk only in mother tongue. If the family is bi lingual, one parent must talk in one language and other in other language. The human brain is very sensitive in this stage and the sensitivity for language is very sharp. So the language available in the child’s environment influences his personality and expression.
· Human child’s mind is burning like a pier which can absorb and digest any units of culture and intelligence.
· Child’s cry is the very first self expression but it is not the language. But we must listen and respect the cry call and attend to his needs.
· From birth to 3 months give more possible exposure to visual images, objects with proper names in proper pronunciation. But please do not expect the child to repeat and memorize any things.
· In first few months the child will express many sounds of consonants.
· By 5.5 to 6 months the child utters the very first word. It will have an inner meaning.
· By this time the child is very clear about a fact that every object has a name.
· From the day 1 after birth slowly talk in slow calm sweet voice but not babyish talk.
· The child can hear and imbibe a long conversation also. By 1.5 years children are capable of listening and understanding our conversations. So let us be very clear about our language and its content.
· Emotional stressful shouting, abusing words, horrible high noises will damage child’s sensitive periods and pull down its security and self confidence.
· By 6 to 10 months the child can understand that the object with name makes a meaning for communication and it makes the child to take more steps towards social behavior.
· So he tries his best to communicate by gathering all the sounds, words to express his need which is called the babbling talk. It is very important for the family members to listen to his talks but to respond in normal speech. We need got give the respond in the same babbling talk. Provide the correct words and expressions.
· Make the child to listen, observe various songs, sweet music and expose to even concerts.
· We can also read stories from the books and show pictures with correct names.
· Grammar for spoken language can be given in this stage. The brain has the power of analysis and makes use of them.
· Books can be read with big colorful pictures from the stage when the child can sit on your laps.
· By 1 year the child develops the self thinking and suddenly starts talking. This is called the ‘’EXPLOSION OF LANGUAGE’’. It is very good to listen and respond to them.
· Before the age of 6 the human brain is craving for vocabulary and we can enrich the vocabulary skill by talking, showing, reading and other activities but without expecting that the child will say it out immediately.
· Enrichment of vocabulary is respected as the child’s real treasure because it makes him to communicate with the environment and express his self needs and personality.
· Better not to give any one word answer.
· Pacifier and artificial gums will stop the tongue from language development. They will pull down child’s self confidence.
· When the child sucks mother’s breasts please observe the movements of the lips and mouth. This exercise is very important preparation for the mouth muscles and tongue and also for nerves to talk.
· Children who has not experienced with mother’s milk lack concentration and confidence to pick up the language.
· We are the real resource and materials for the language development of the child.
· Please do not hurry up the beginners who have just started talking. It will reduce their confidence and expression.
· A child who has developed good spoken skills will reach a good level of written expression later in his life.
· Finally it is very important that the child’s language is the mirror which reflects our language, culture and behavior.
· BE AWARE WHEN YOU ARE TALKING TO YOUR CHILD!

NEW BORN'S ENVIRONMENT

HOW TO ASSIST A NEW BORN CHILD TO FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THE NEW WORLD?
This article will help the family to setup the suitable home environment for the new born infant who has to slowly adapt to the new world. The article is reflecting the features of various practical ideas given and followed by great trainers of Dr.Montessori education. We can see many such environments all over the world.

*** We suggest seeing a movie called ‘’EDISON’S DAY ‘’ produced by NAMTA [NORTH AMERICAN MONTESSORI TEACHERS ASSOCIATION]. The film has been produced by Mr. Tim Khan. This film is about a 1.5 year old boy assisted by his parents who believe Montessori principles and the movie makes us to become aware about many things about infants.

First we must accept the fact that the infant is seeing the world around him for the very first time. After living very safely for 9 months inside his mother’s uterus provided with food, shelter and care he is making himself to move out of it to under go the next plane of freedom to serve his natural laws.
So we are here to only assist him with our true love. But we are tied with the more emotional love especially regarding with the infant’s physical care but ignoring his psychic needs.
It is our ignorance that the psych of the man develops only the later ages. After seeing this sure your mind will think about the infant’s needs.

Father and mother must mentally prepare with the arrival of new born baby. It is best to prepare our relatives to see and handle the infant very carefully and it will be very nice if they all can wait for few weeks after delivery.
The infant must be helped with suitable clothing according to the climatic needs.
If we are covering the child, please allow the hands to move freely.
The language used by us can be more positive, lovable not babyish.
Use correct words, with required emotional expressions.
Stress, emotional upsets, family fights, separations of parents will create the psychic shock in the child which is going to affect the growth and development
Mothers are strictly advised not to give breast milk if they are mentally stressed.
Please try to feed the child as many years you can.
It is very important for the mother and the child to be alone and in physical contact for first 48 days. There are certain electrical impulses which flow between them and rectify any internal problems.
The infant must be handled with the strong gentle support for his spine.
The infant must be gently touched and handled with love and hugged under mother’s arms to provide the confidence and security.
Even mother’s dressing must be very airy, loose, and comfortable for feeding.
Walk safely, slowly, handle the objects gently.
Traditional jewels, kajal can be used after some months. Because they may defend child’s movements.
Please allow to sleep down on the clean floor. Mat with soft bed spread is advisable.
Better do not arrest the infant with pillows.
Allow the child’s movement in all possible ways.
Mother and father must talk in lovable language with correct words to introduce the outer environment to their child.
Child can understand the language from 1 month.
Infants can see all around them only in black and white till 3 months. After the formation of cone cells in the 4 month, he can see colors.
Try to put black and white pictures, mobiles around him later replace with colorful pictures, mobiles and toys.
Fix a large mirror with a handle bar on the wall and place the bed near the mirror so that the child can see and observe himself and the environment. Slowly when he starts standing he can hold the bar and start his next step of exploration.
With love and over care never arrest the child’s movements and language.
Try your best to mingle the child with your day to day life.
Try your best to mingle him with the nature.
When he starts sitting allow him to have his own food with his own hands. Because taking and putting the hands into the mouth is a very great expression of growth and development.
The child can sit on your laps and observe and also listen to stories with big colorful pictures.
Try to use the books, pictures which can be more meaningful and realistic.
Start exposing to all five natural elements with more care and safety from the day one after the child birth.
Can start give a spoon of good drinking water from the day one after birth.
Better start giving bath from day one and also maintain the order in movement, handling and people who are involved in that.
Even change in holding the infant will cause disturbance and we must be very careful.
When the child starts beginning to walk, allow to walk and run. Better place all the harmful objects away from them.
When the teeth sprouts, offer all the tastes to experience.
PLEASE BELIEVE THAT THE INFANT CAN DECIDE THE AMOUNT OF FOOD THEY NEED TO CONSUME. THEY HAVE THE BASIC MATHEMATICAL SENSE TO MEASURE THEIR FOOD. BETTER FEED AS THEY REQUIRE.
When the child can decide better give choice with limitation.
Basic rules of the house can be given from the day he can observe your talk.
Need not compromise with the decisions.
No rewards and punishments.
We must try our best to implement in our family with these laws of nature to assist the child.
Parents must believe that when we the Montessori teachers are able to implement many ideas and assist your children why can’t you?

SENSITIVE CHILDREN

SENSITIVE PERIODS WITHIN YOUNG CHILDREN.
Very often I use to observe the three year old child sitting near to me in my school van. He use to just touch my shirt edge with his thumb and other fingers and goes on exploring the texture of the shirt. I just allow that.
WHY?
Unless if I am really distracted there is no harm in allowing children from birth to 6 years old to observe, touch and feel, listen, watch any such things in our reality.
FOR WHAT PURPOSE?
There is a very special process happening inside these children which we cannot understand. These processes are the assisting the child’s powerful tool of personality construction which is known as ‘’THE ABSORBENT MIND’’.
THESE PERIODS ARE THE SENSITIVE PERIODS OF CHILD. Every human child is undergoing this great process. If any child is stopped from experiencing this sensitivity he will be loosing great experiences related to the respective sensitivity. So he cannot adapt later to his environment with that experience.
Ex: Children, who were not allowed or exposed to touch and feel the animals, will never have the natural sense of handling animals. Before 6 years if the child is loosing this opportunity to express the sensitivity he will never have the feeling for the animal touch naturally.
WHAT IS SENSITIVITY?
Dr.Montessori says, ‘’ Sensitivity is the very unique specific time within which human characters are developed from birth to 6 years.’’
· Just by understanding and accepting this fact within our infants and children we can easily observe and understand their actions and expressions by which more assistance can be rendered.
Ex: When I understood the sensitivity of my brother’s 5 months old infant for sounds, during his visit to India I gave the exposure of listening to varieties of sounds from vehicles, instruments, songs and my sister- in – law read various styles of Tamil verses from various beautiful books slowly, sweetly when he just concentrated. This is the sensitivity for sound and language. As the result the baby is very fond of communicating with all of us in phone just by hearing our voice in the family. His sensitivity has made him to suit with his real life.

· Sensitive periods last as along the absorbent mind exists. They are the master and the true servants.
· Sensitive periods are universal.
· After 6 years we cannot regenerate the sensitive periods.
· Various sensitive periods combine and functions together.
Ex: A child may goes on making humming and scratching the dress designs expresses the sensitivity for music and texture. Just allow them to continue.

· We cannot realize and study what is the working chemistry behind these periods. It is nature’s personal gifts to human child.
· Any sensitive period begins with the great speed of absorption and continues and slows down like a car just picking up the speed to climb up the hill and after exploring through journey it will get down slowly and steadily.
· VERY IMPORTANT POINT FOR PARENTS:
Children will do certain actions which are unacceptable. One of my infant in my environment even though knowing that he cannot touch the running ants he touched. But he knew that it is not acceptable. But the enormous powers of sensitivity to touch and feel have just made his muscles and nerves to do that action. During sensitivity periods there are actions which are not under the mind control of the infant child.

The above said example is happening even till 9 years old in our life with our children. Some children will just throw the object which they have upon others or out side even though we say ‘’NO’’. We have to realize that still the muscular system and nervous system are untrained to coordinate with the sensitivity. Allow the action to over and just talk little firmly to them and stop.

· During these sensitive periods, all children learn any thing every things from the existing environment automatically. We are just behind them.
· Dr.Montessori has classified the sensitive periods as 4 major groups for helping the adults to understand the child to serve him.

1. SENSITIVE PERIOD FOR LANGUAGE
· Human language starts getting constructed from the gestation after the formation of the sensitive part of ear with 63 strings. Pregnant women can talk slowly and softly to the fetus and please don’t teach. From the birth have personal conversation with the infant. Try your best to talk in any one language. Talk softly, sweetly with correct words. Try to avoid babyish talk to them. There are plenty of other ways to express your love rather than this unwanted talk.
· After birth infants observes our lips while talking to pick up the language.
Ex: Uma and her husband were talking to the new born infant from the day 1 and prepared him for the beautiful journey from London to India. The child has understood the reality of change and came without any cry from London to Madras for 10 hours.
· Infants are just sensitive only to human voice. The sensitive periods just picks up many sounds but constructs the human voice alone. Other wise babies living near railway stations must sound just like trains.
· Human child can converse in many languages. But those languages must be used regularly in the reality of the baby. Dr.Montessori says that a child is capable of talking 30 languages.
· When they utter the sounds we need to respect them and respond them.
· Please don’t correct and teach the word immediately.
· When the babbling talk begins please listen to them and don’t respond in the same babbling talk.
Ex: Karthik is 7 years old. He is still talking is babbling voice. We came to know that he was born in his family after vary long time. So the family members have showered their love and affection just through babbling talk and voice and always lifting him. Can you realize the sensitive period and its power?
· By 6 months the child is aware that all objects have names and it wants to express the self. He tries his best and there exhibits the flow of sounds.
· Give the names first, then actions and slowly the main grammar techniques for spoken language. But all these must be the real expression not the teaching.
· When your child understands that you can provide all the names which he needs him, starts believing you and have confidence with you and talks well.
· Music [vocal] must be exposed just not only by recorders. We must sing, take the children to concerts and slowly mingle the music in real life.
· Ex: Madhu [25 years old] is excellent in chanting all shlokas in Sanskrith. But she has not attended any classes. She has attained this skill because her mother used to chant many shlokas during her pregnancy and after birth her and in - laws do many chanting sessions before her at home.
· We need to talk more listen to the children more and by 2.5 years they can enriched with 1000 words.
· Any horrible talks, abusing talks, shocking harsh voice will damage the child’s ears, voice box and create fear to express.
· THIS SENSITIVITY MAKES THE HUMAN CHILD TO ATTAIN THE FREEDOM OF SELF EXPRESSION.

2. SENSITIVITY PERIODS FOR COORDINATION OF MOVEMENTS:
· Allow the infants to move to their best, crawl, stand, swim, walk, sit, run, roll, rotate, and somersault and all harmless movements.
· But we must wait for this sensitivity to begin its work. We cannot make a child to stand or walk before his sensitivity period for walking.
· Please don’t put them in the rolling chairs.
· Allow them to move and explore the nature and living environment.
· During movements please prepare the environments safely and appropriate for your child’s actions. Put more breakable objects and they increase their coordination of movements and concentration.
· While walking out allow the child to explore the surroundings. Give the time for their research work and walk.
Ex: For the very first time these infants are moving out and their sensitivity is hungry to eat more and more. By seeing the big flower he may delay his steps and observe that flower. Please allow that.
Dr.Montessori has helped a little girl in London just to see the night sky because her parents have never allowed seeing a night sky. She will be is the bed by 7 P.M.

When Meera came from Mumbai to Coimbatore she has exposed her 2 years old son to observe and explore SreeKrishna Sweets, Sreedevi Textiles, Kamala metal stores and walked all along the cross cut roads of Gandhipuram. The child was very calmly and quietly observing the city and later talked about it at nights.
· Last but least we must move and do all actions of life with perfection and grace. Because be aware the infant eating the candy in the hall is observing your actions!!!
Ex: When Kumari brought her new born infant to India from Australia, she just requested her mother and father to have graceful movements in home during her presence. Even the servant maid was following that and the child enjoyed every gestures of the adult.
THIS SENSITIVITY MAKES THE HUMAN CHILD TO ATTAIN THE FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT AND SELF CONTROL OF ACTIONS.


3. SENSITIVITY PERIOD FOR ORDER:
Dr.Montessori says that ‘’ORDER ‘’ is every aspect of the house and society which has to assist the infant to observe acceptable orderliness in language, movements, expressions, promises and social behavior so that the child can enjoy very harmonious adaptation.

· Before 6 years the child’s mind is very keen in observing this order in every thing. They think that the sense of order is similar to that, ‘’a fish must be only inside the water’’.
Ex: Infants cannot even accept immediately the change in holding them by the own mother.

· By talking to the infant we can prepare the child for easy adaptation and that brings the real sense of order.
Ex: I have been warned by many children less than 6 years to walk carefully without stamping the working mats in the class room.
· When they start talking comes the friction between us. For all the disorder actions our child will denote that and condemn. Please accept them and correct our own orders.
Ex: Ramesh once made his son to wear the shirt in a wrong order and the child started crying and said that the mother puts in different way. Immediately he called his wife and asked her to show how to wear and asked excuse from his child.
· Keep up your words and if you cannot, there is no harm in explaining to the child about the inconvenience.
THIS SENSITIVITY MAKES THE CHILD TO ATTAIN THE FREEDOM OF INNER DISCIPLIN AND SELF CONFIDENCE.
4. SENSITIVITY FOR REFINEMENT OF SENSES
Dr.Montessori’s sensorial materials actually feed for the refinement of all senses. We need to understand and accept that the new child is craving to explore and experience every single aspect of the real life. For the very time in the life the child is going to see the environment and he needs to get adapted to that. It is our responsibility to give them the opportunity to the child to have sense explorations and experiences. This makes the child to have inner love for all creations and objects.
Allow any activity with any object which never harms the child.
Ex: One month infant can see and feel the tender flowers.
Senses will be refined only by experiences and this will happen only when we give them all chances to touch, feel, smell, taste, smell and hear.
Examples:
· Vaani gave the experience of handling tiny vessels to her 5 months old boy and he made the own practice of sipping water from it.
· Ram used to give the experience to his 3 years old girl to touch pet animals.
· Sujatha makes his twins to smell all kitchen ingredients which are not very spicy.
· Divya allows her 2 year old girl to touch and fruit and vegetable and then she cuts them before her and cooks. Later she lakes her to experience all the tastes by making her to remember the market experiences.

5. SENSITIVE PERIOD FOR SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
From the day 1 after the birth the infant is exposed to the fresh new world which is the greatest task for him to adapt himself. We need to assist the infant through our behavior for this.
Dr.Montessori says that the first 6 years of human life is indirect observation which constructs the learning and personality. So the infants learn from our social gestures.
· Various social norms.
· Our emotional mistakes especially in addressing others, handling other’s emotions.
· Mingling of the child in our daily practical life.
· Giving opportunity for the child to experiment and experience the social life.
· Exposure to varieties of cultures and arts.
All these assisting exercises will help your child to have better social behavior.

EXAMPLE: 1. Talk to the people who come to sell flowers, goods, vegetables and other things with respective suffix. The child will understand that they all are here to help us and we need to respect them. In future the child will also mingle with them in friendly and respectful manner.

2. Allow the child to take part in a dinner or lunch with your guests. Allow him to do his role of treating them.

FOR GOOD SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR ALLOW THE CHILD TO WATCH TOUCH, FEEL, EXPRESS, OBSERVE AND GIVE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE.

6. SENSITIVE PERIOD FOR TINY THINGS

From the age of 2 to 6 many children expresses this sensitivity. They are very keen and interested in watching and observing unique tiny objects from the surroundings.
Example: One of my children saw a rose and appreciated its beauty and we were discussing about the rose flower. Suddenly he saw a tiny ant inside the petals and wondered how the flower has given shelter for that ant.

Swetha is a 3 year old child. She always likes her mother to wear a red color saree. We came to know that she likes that saree because she has made deep observation with the tiny flowers hidden among broad checks.

We can see many children who are very particular for specific sounds of animals and birds.

Even if your child is holding a bit of paper please allow to hold it. Because for him this will be the very first experience to see such object and he may explore varieties of things and his imagination may grow.

BUT WE ARE SPOILING THE CHILD’S ACTIONS AND EXPRESSIONS JUST BECAUSE OF OUR SELF EGO.

PLEASE DO NOT CONTROL OR SUPRESS ANY OF THE ACTION MADE BY YOUR CHILD. OBSERVE AND ASSIST THEM FOR ADAPTATION ESPECIALLY DURING THE SENSITIVE PERIODS.

DEVELOPMENT OF MY CHILD'S ORDERLINESS

HOW TO ASSIST MY CHILD TO BECOME MORE ORDER?

1. Dr.Montessori defines that the order within a child is brought out by every object around him. The order of the child is not just the inner order of behavior. It is the outer and inner order of the child in handling things, language, movement and expression.

2. Order is learned from the nature that has placed every thing on this Earth in a perfect manner. When we our self obey the great laws of nature the life will become more order. Please allow your child to observe, watch, and communicate with the outer surroundings which have great order.
Ex: I used to talk about the order in which the petals are perfectly arranged by Mother Nature in a flower to my students and they used to clap for that by them self.

3. From the period of cell division during pregnancy till our last breath we all follow order in every action.

Ex: breathing, circulatory movement of the blood, genetic expressions, animal behaviors, hunger, construction of buildings, performing arts, cooking, sun raise, dawn, dusk, seasons and so on.

4. It is our responsibility to make the home and school environments with perfect order without any compromise to seed the order for the absorbent mind from birth to 6 years.

EX: Ahana is a 2 year old child. Every day she wakes up and run to her bedroom window to see the crows making sound at dawn regularly. She has expressed that the crows wakes up to go out and eat by mornings. This is the order from the birds she has observed. Then we must accept the child will observe and practice the various orders from adults in the home and school.

5. Dr.Montessori says that order evolves through clear classification of materials and actions. Children will learn soon to classify the objects.
EX: 1. I have observed how to place the various books and news papers perfectly after mingling with by friend’s family when I was studying grade 4. The order of placing the books followed by his parents has made a great impact within me.

2. We can allow the child to classify the fruits and vegetables. After that we can wash them, wipe them with a cloth and show them to place in various compartments in the fridge.

6. The order followed in case of objects will create a great impact for love, neatness and behavior which includes the movement. Order will bring out the graceful gestures from the child.

Ex: It will be very nice to see very young children in Montessori schools carefully handling the objects with great care and love for the work which they do.

7. WHY WE NEED TO BE ORDERED?
* Infants come to the new world after the gestation period which is totally man made. It is very new and strange for them which is a great challenge for them to adapt. So it is the adult’s role to prepare the new living environment which expresses the order in every aspect of life just to make the infant confident and to adapt soon.

Ex: The room where the infant lives can follow the order of regularity in washing the bed sheets, changing pillow covers, regularity in feeding, mother’s timing in sleeping, food taking, bathing and so on. But it is very important that we are always talking slowly and softly about these to them from 1 month. I have seen people talking to the baby and changing the cradle cloth. They say that they are changing the cloth because it is wet and dirty and the child can wait for few minutes.

8. One who cares, sense of same touch, same way of holding, dressing, wrapping, feeding, light, sound around them, talking voice level, visits of elders inside the room makes the child to observe the great order of live and they feel much secured. Order helps the child to build the self confidence.

9. Order helps the child to learn naturally about the life.
Ex: In many traditional Indian families small children have understood that on certain occasions like festivals the mother or grand mother will be involved in various works preparing for the ritual and food and they never go and disturb them.

I have a 5 year old child who says that on every Friday he needs to wait for the breakfast because the mother will be performing a religious ritual. I asked whether he feels tired and he replied that it is nice to wait for the mother to come after offering the rituals to God.

10. Adults must follow the orderliness in the body gestures, cosmetics, dressing sense, language and many other things.
Ex: 7 year old Hema was very upset when she saw her mother in maxi dress suddenly one evening which she never wears in the family. She did not talk to her mother because the dress has created a barrier and she thought that her mother has changed. Then her mother understood Hema’s mind and spoke to her. Slowly Hema adjusted to mingle with her mother in that dress.
Some times we need to prepare the child to be ready for the change in order which will be new to the family. Other wise it will give the sense of insecurity to their mind.

So these are the real initial and basement stones for constructing the inner order within our children. All Montessori schools are liked by children just because there is a great order for every object which is making the children to see the beauty of the order. This law makes them to work and settle soon.

HOW TO ASSIST MY CHILD'S MOVEMENTS?

HOW TO OBSERVE AND ASSIST MY CHILD’S MOVEMENTS?

Living organisms are obviously distinct from rest of the things because of the actions or movements performed by them internally and externally. Dr.Montessori says that the laws of nature given to every single living species regarding the movement are to serve for the cosmos just not for selfish pleasures.

But regarding the human child the main universal problem is the child’s unacceptable and acceptable movements. We have misunderstood a lot about our own movements. So we have imposed a very rigid control upon child’s essential movements which are very much necessary for his freedom and self construction. So let us try to observe the child’s actions and movements and see where our mistake is.

A Montessori environment is mostly liked by all children because it accepts the freedom of movement for self construction. A child can sit any where, walk at any time, talk without distracting others, work any thing by his choice and free to express his thoughts.

This freedom has made these children to evolve as ‘’ perfect human characters with potentials and confidence’’.

Dr.Montessori says that if we suppress the actions and movements of our children, the mind will loose interest and confidence and they start seeking our support for ever.

We think that the new born infant cannot do any movement. But an Olympic athlete was unable to move after few hours where as the new born infant performed his movements without tiredness for long hours. We are suppressing the new born child’s movements which have to be done for confidence building.

What can I do?
Floor is the best support for the child than us.
Clean the floor, apply good soft bedspread or mat according to your climatic conditions.
Just be aware about the safety and leave the infant on the bed spread. See the power of movement.

Dr.Montessori says that when a child’s hands are given the freedom of movement and feeling of the touch his brain constructs the units of intelligence and control of movement with awareness will be blossomed. But it is very sad to see children getting controlled and checked by us to use the hands.

TIPS FOR LITTLE HANDS:
Low down the shelves and place the child’s things in order and he can explore, touch and take them. Especially allow the child’s thumb, fore finger and middle finger to coordinate and work. These 3 fingers are the most important people for child’s later creations.
Dr.Montessori has designed most of her didactic apparatuses with the knobs which provides the hands and fingers to explore more and to work a lot. Cylindrical Blocks is a wooden apparatus which supports the child for this action can be given. All puzzles and picking up activities supports this movement.
We can cultivate the inner order of movement and self control.
In this stage children likes to use hands especially to touch soil, sand and water. Please allow them to handle them with clean stuff.
Allow the child to wash the hands with a bit of soap and 2 bowls of water. The nervous connections enrich the impulses and the brain concentrates more. This id one of the most important activity in any Montessori school.
Similarly the soil, sand and clay can make them to imagine and create many things. But they need be any meaningful creation in our view. The hand in work all the human brain to explore more and increases the power of imagination.

Dr.Montessori says that the child’s inner WILL triggers the little hands to touch, feel and slowly create things which is nothing but the previous explorations and cultural formation.

HOW TO OBSERVE AND ASSIST MY CHILD’S MOVEMENTS?

Living organisms are obviously distinct from rest of the things because of the actions or movements performed by them internally and externally. Dr.Montessori says that the laws of nature given to every single living species regarding the movement are to serve for the cosmos just not for selfish pleasures.

But regarding the human child the main universal problem is the child’s unacceptable and acceptable movements. We have misunderstood a lot about our own movements. So we have imposed a very rigid control upon child’s essential movements which are very much necessary for his freedom and self construction. So let us try to observe the child’s actions and movements and see where our mistake is.

A Montessori environment is mostly liked by all children because it accepts the freedom of movement for self construction. A child can sit any where, walk at any time, talk without distracting others, work any thing by his choice and free to express his thoughts.

This freedom has made these children to evolve as ‘’ perfect human characters with potentials and confidence’’.

Dr.Montessori says that if we suppress the actions and movements of our children, the mind will loose interest and confidence and they start seeking our support for ever.

We think that the new born infant cannot do any movement. But an Olympic athlete was unable to move after few hours where as the new born infant performed his movements without tiredness for long hours. We are suppressing the new born child’s movements which have to be done for confidence building.

What can I do?
Floor is the best support for the child than us.
Clean the floor, apply good soft bedspread or mat according to your climatic conditions.
Just be aware about the safety and leave the infant on the bed spread. See the power of movement.

HOW TO ASSIT CHILDREN BETWEEN 6 TO 12 YEARS OLD?

BE AWARE OUR CHILDREN ARE NOT THE SAME!
‘’ Today the school is a place where a teacher behaves as a doctor and as a nurse to handle and give the cure for children who are very badly injured by the home situations and society’’
Says one of the great Montessorian in the 26th International Montessori Conference which was held in Chennai on January 8th and 9th of 2009. Yes it is true. Here we are no more stressing our brains from talking the various issues of the children in all families. But we are trying our best to support our self in guiding the changing age levels and seeing the children as the perfect growing adults.
As Dr.Maria Montessori the great educationalist guides us with her detailed scientific and emotional authentic studies, the trained teachers and parents feel very easy to handle the various age groups of children in various situations of life. The article discuss about the characteristic features of children of different age groups and parenting.
Who is this child?
Stage 1
The child in the house is our reflection. He is born with his sanchitha and sinchitha karamas. When the fresh atman gets into the mother’s womb for the rebirth it is the only the great human mother changes the entire karama of the infant through her teachings. So based on the woman’s spiritual status the infant is brought up to the outer world.
But the child who is seeing the earth after the birth has the inner psychic incarnation and plenty of human potentials which he is carrying from the parental genes and previous birth. His inner instincts which makes him to grow physically and mentally slowly makes his mind set up from where the ‘’self human ego’’ sprouts, triggers for further absorption, observation, anagramming, making his own personality.
From birth till the age of 3 the child is just the new born infant with growing psychic embryo which we call as ‘’SPIRITUAL EMBRYO’’. This vanishes by the age of 4 and there stops the personality development. So be aware only till 4 years we can make our home situations good for the child to grow as a good human character. But further situations will be helping him to do the remedies based on his karamas.
So from birth till 4 years what the parents especially the mother has given the child will continue as his personality. In this age just physical growth, observation happens. The mind is like a sponge which can absorb any liquid. This state of mind is called as ‘’absorbent mind’’.
So till 3 to 4 the child has observed and absorbed many units of information, emotions, skills, talents which are constructing his personality later.
Stage 2
Now the child is 3 to 4 years. Till the age of 6 he is totally different from what we have seen. He is now very much independent in movement, able to talk and express his needs and communicate with the outer environment. He has gathered many units of life values and now it is the time for his psych to co ordinate those units and make his character. First he will start reasoning just for thirst of knowledge. Then he implements the facts and ideas into reality. It can be about any thing in life. He loves secrets, spy work and want to know every thing. Parents must be very aware about this age. We can encourage their questions and also challenge them but must not give too much of information about any thing which will saturate their brains. This is the time for them to observe role models from own family. This is the time they want to know about good and bad and judgment. They enjoy every activity because the physic and physical power is very high.
Stage 3, 6 to 12 years
By 6, the child is very much independent in the physical movements and mental thinking. He is very clear about the happening in the home, family, surroundings. The mind which is building him says that he knew every thing. Though it is not true we need to wait for him to understand that there are many things which he has to be understood.
The self ego of the child pricks in various contexts and makes him to thing for and against his parents, peer group and people who are related to him. Here comes the main problem between the adults and the child.
The adult ego tells, ‘’ I suffered like these bla bla bla, I have given so much of courage, things, opportunities, but he is just wasting without knowing the time and life’’.
But the adult must realize that the child of this age level knew all things which we are listing about life, us and him. But there is a transition happening within the body and mind which hurdles the child to accept them obviously.
The main reason is the peer group pressure. The group has given various forms of pressure. The child’s age seeks the need of the outer world which can be easily done with the group. But today there are 1000s of pressure imposed on children by them self.
Ex: Children especially girls forms various groups among them self. The groups always have clashes like the religions. Silly reasons make them vary upset. There is gang in grade 7 in my school which accepts girls only if they have a slim body with cat walk.
In grade 3, boys have told to a child ask your father to take to this particular bakery to taste this particular cake. Then you can be with us.
Especially in girls around 10 years they are becoming more self conscious about their physical needs, shape and activities.
It is not easy for the mother or father to give a lesson of values to change them. The adults need to realize the environment where the child is living.
Main steps for the adults to handle this age group:
1. Give time for them to settle after every activity.
2. Give space for their emotions after any situations.
3. Give space for your self to communicate with them after any activity in friendly approach, but the awareness of the parenting consciousness must not be loosened.
4. Just make them aware that you know what is happening within them and assure them that you are always for ever as their first friend to listen to them in any situations. This is the most difficult task for us to cultivate within them. But it is very important for us to shed our own ego.
5. From the age of 6+ a male and female family role model is a must for a boy and a girl to follow respectively. Especially in case of the son it must be the father. The mother must make the father as the son’s role model.
6. Stop giving lectures of values, but show them in your reality.
7. Slowly tell them ‘’ this is the reality of our life, our family, town, nation and explain them the acceptance of what we need and assure them that they will be rewarded in proper time for all their deeds which are acceptable.
8. Do not bribe their actions.
9. The best punishment is just grounding them from all their actions. When a man is stopped from performing all his actions there comes the sense of self seeing and realizing his actions. But for no reason the adult must not with draw from the consequence.
10. Parents must be aware of the grounding action. They must not support the child when the consequence is proceeding.
11. Please do not show any of your in capability before the child. Even if we are unable to do certain things just explain them the reality but not emotionally.
12. Both parents must appreciate each other’s skills, talents, actions and deeds.
13. Please do not tell them that you are sacrificing for them. Instead of that tell them the gifts of God to your family which is not in others.
14. Do not get upset by this age the child knew many things about adults, family issues, sex, unacceptable words and many such things. All these have gone into their brains just from the observation, peer group and finally from us. They are not aware much about the danger but they have be addressed very firmly.
15. Make very obvious that the family and home culture is ‘’THIS’’. Tell them that any unacceptable cannot be appreciated and just remove their most exciting moments and strictly follow that till they come to you.
16. The reality behind poverty, luxury, caste system, reality of religion, spirituality based on their mind maturity.
17. Please don’t get upset immediately when there is an issue. First ask them the reason then talk to them.
18. Just give them the total confidence that they can share any thing they need.
19. The school complaints can be open to you without any fear. There are children who just call their father by themselves when there is an issue. They said that their parents understand and help them along with the tutors to solve the issue.
20. School diaries must not be the symbol of fearsome issue complains pages. This can be implemented into their minds.
21. If they want to involve in any unacceptable action just tell the real results behind that and follow them.
22. Talk to the 10+ old child about the physical change and explain the simple sex education. Today parents are doing this and helping the children to come out of many issues.
23. In any activity please don’t allow you’re self to open up with the end result and break out the secret of knowledge. They need challenging activities.
24. After 10 years till 12, the child will feel lazy, bored, unhealthy, reasoning but all in the forms of unwanted questions, no taste for scientific lessons, logical lessons, but interested in culture, history, fictions, and fancy stories and so on. They feel good about their skills but slowly feels shy for exposing, expressing for appreciation. But the child of 6 is opposite to this.
25. It is very difficult for their fresh self ego to accept the life reality. Just think how long we all take and suffer to accept our own life though we are spiritual.
26. The main lesson for the adults is just to follow them keep in eye with them but not giving the feeling of the bitter spy. But they need to know that the adults knew them well.
27. Just slowly talk to them and make them to realize the issue with the situation and give space and chances for the decisions. But tell them the decisions are totally responsible to them if they decide for them self.
28. By 6+ when the child knew about good and bad he is confused between the real judgments when it comes to him. So ask him to approach us to help him.
29. The family issues which they have taken into their mind are just because of us.
30. The child’s actions are the mirror reflections of our self ego.
31. They express us our actions.
32. The child follows what we do.
33. Ex: This is a very simple example. When a mother goes on complaining about her child doing every thing late the husband just asked her to check by what time she wakes up. She understood that she wakes up very late and do all her work slowly. This has been observed and performed by the child. When she changed her attitude and actions within few weeks the child also changed.
34. Finally please digest that the child is not living in the future. Why God has been worshipped mostly as children? Because they can allow live in reality if present tense. Please accept them and allow them to grow and just give guidance. Help them; don’t impose all your need on him now.
35. The studies, social set up, friends needs all make them weak and stressed.
